Peace groups to honor Americans fallen in Iraq, Afghanistan at Memorial Day event

"More than 4,000 names will be read aloud in downtown Reno on Monday, in honor of Memorial Day and in traditional recognition of the people who gave their lives in the service of this country."
Suzzie Wein of Reno, president of the Sierra Nevada chapter of the Blue Star Mothers of America, also will mark the holiday. She is the mother of a young woman serving in Afghanistan and mother-in-law of a serviceman in Iraq. The nonprofit group supports mothers of service people.
“I’d prefer not to be at war, but I totally support what they’re doing,” Wein said.Wein plans to attend Sunday’s Memorial Day parade in Virginia City, while many of her fellow Blue Star Mothers expect to attend the Monday’s Memorial Day ceremony in Fernley.
