At the Okaloosa Board of County Commissioners meeting on Tuesday,
March 6, Military Order of Purple Heart members, Blue Star and Gold Star
Mothers of America were on hand to read a proclamation establishing
Okaloosa County as the first Purple Heart county in Florida.
“Many of our counties are deserving of this tribute; however, it is
with great pride that I read this proclamation honoring our own Medal of
Honor recipients and Okaloosa County Purple Heart recipients,”
Commissioner Bill Roberts said.

Tunnel To Towers: Partners: Blue Star Mothers of America
In 2011, we had eight local Blue Star Mothers of America Chapters
host a Tunnel To Towers event in their city. We hope that all eight of
them join us again in 2012, and perhaps many more based on some of the
successes we enjoyed together.

Middleburg hosts first SOS program for families of fallen soldiers
President of Blue Star Mothers – Central Florida, Mrs. Vickie DiGiovanni, presented the Gold Star Service Flag to Families representing Fallen Soldiers who died on Active Duty. Diane Webber, along with other quilters of the Camp Blanding Quilters Guild, presented a quilt to each Family.
Potted autumnal mums were presented to the Families by the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
