Blue Star Mothers going the Extra Mile

Combing through loads of supplies, a group of ladies are on a mission. Armed with candy bars, razors and shampoo they’re loading up to ship out.

They keep it light-hearted, but this is serious business. They don’t want anyone in our military to forget someone is thinking about them.

“With the 45th coming home, we thought we’d get a break,” said Blue Star mom Kimberly Graham.

TULSA - The holiday gifts have been unwrapped and now there's plenty of trash piling up in homes across Green Country. But it doesn't have to end up in the landfill.

You can also take flattened cardboard boxes and Styrofoam to the "12 Days of Christmas" recycling drive at Harley Hollan Companies. Last year's drive kept 40,000 pounds of material out of the landfill.

"Instead of placing your empty boxes on the curbside, you can just bring it here. We make it easy. You pull in, we'll unload it for you, and you can be on your way," said Sherry Brunner with Harley Hollan Companies.

This year's proceeds benefit the Blue Star Mothers.

Bishop Kelley Students support US Troops

TULSA, Okla - Bishop Kelley students and staff have set out to accomplish a goal that may seem impossible: To write Christmas cards to all 100,000 servicemen and woman who are stationed in the Middle East.

Students have until November 15th to finish the project. That will give the Blue Star Mothers enough time to place the cards into care packages that they will ship to Iraq and Afghanistan by Christmas.

The local Blue Star Mothers ship thousands of "Freedom Boxes" to US troops each year. They contain everything from snacks to toiletries.
