Senior quilting group making a difference for wounded veterans
The Blue Star Mothers came calling. They were looking for lap quilts to
send to wounded warriors overseas and these sewing ladies stepped in to
help.
Hiltrud Ridenour with Blue Star Mothers said, "All of a sudden, I get a phone call. She said, 'Are you the gal that called me about the quilts?' I said yes. She said, 'I've got 26, can you come to Belen?'"
Three years later, 46 turned into more than 400.

Tunnel To Towers: Partners: Blue Star Mothers of America
In 2011, we had eight local Blue Star Mothers of America Chapters
host a Tunnel To Towers event in their city. We hope that all eight of
them join us again in 2012, and perhaps many more based on some of the
successes we enjoyed together.
So, what do they do? They support the troops.

Blue Star Mothers need items for troop care packages
An Albuquerque group is working to provide Christmas care packages to troops overseas.
The Blue Star Mothers said they send out care packages five times a year and the winter holiday shipment is their largest donation drive.
However, the group is in dire need of more gifts.
“November 19 is our biggest Christmas packing and we hope to send out 600 packages that day and our shelves are pretty bare,” Dot Bossard, Blue Star Mother spokesperson said.

Group commemorates Flag Day
"ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Sunday was Flag Day. It's a day that's often overlooked, but a group of military families in Albuquerque said they want to change that.
Our Lady of Perpetual Help Byzantine Catholic Church in northeast Albuquerque held a special mass to honor and remember those who lost their lives fighting for the U.S.
For those at the service, Flag Day cannot be ignored.
'Until I was a Blue Star Mother it was just one of those holidays that flew under the radar, you didn't really do anything,' Joan Thomson said.
Thomson's son is in the military, making her a Blue Star Mother.
Several Blue Star Mothers attended the service Sunday."

NM Easter gifts headed to soldiers
"ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Easter goodies are on the way to troops overseas, thanks to the Blue Star Mothers.
The group put together over 200 care packages Saturday for the military men and women stationed all over the world.
The Jimenez family alone collected over 2,700 donations.
'It was very, very thrilling. I got chocked up when they backed into my driveway to drop everything off,' Blue Star Mothers Volunteer Kelley Way said.
Before their daughter was deployed to Iraq, the family threw her a going away party and asked guests to bring donations for troops."
