Afghanistan shootings intensify fears for many
The United States has condemned the soldier's actions. But Cauthen,
who is president of the local chapter of Blue Star Mothers, which
supports the families of those serving in the war zone, said she's
afraid of reprisals, especially after the Taliban vowed revenge for the
shootings.
“I know a lot of families that do have people over there right now. It just adds one more thing to make you worry of what's going to happen next,” Cauthen said.

Vietnam Veterans Day March 29
March
29th has been designated as Vietnam Veterans Day here is Minnesota. It
is a day set aside to honor the soldiers that fought in the Vietnam War.
Many were scrutinized for their involvement in this war, but many were
drafted and did not have a choice to be there.
We,
the Blue Star Moms of Sauk Centre, are honoring them at an open hose on
March 25th at the Sauk Centre Legion. We would like to invite any
Vietnam veteran to attend with their family and/or a friend. We will
have a social hour at 1 p.m., with a short ceremony at 2 p.m. and then
continuing until 4 p.m. A lunch will be served.

Sparks State of the City Speech
We also honor our troops serving our nation so that we may continue to
enjoy the freedoms we have today. To honor our troops, we partnered with
the Blue Star Mothers last year who provided banners depicting our very
own brave men and women serving our nation. On lampposts on Victorian
Avenue and at Victorian Square, these banners are a special tribute to
those in our military family.

Report Paints Grim Picture of Veteran Suicide in Nevada
"Committing suicide, we don't know, even as parents, we don't know the
horrors they see over there. We don't know what's going through their
minds," said Marina Vance, who is with Blue Star Moms. The organization
helps families through the loss of their service member. "Some of them,
when they are ready, they will talk to us, they will call us and say
they are ready but it's very hard," Vance said.
