The Blue Star Mothers want you to dump the coins jangling in your car's ashtray or littering the bottom of your purse onto the street. No, they don't want you to litter. They're looking for donations.
On Sunday, the Blue Star Mothers and the Nazareth Area Chamber of Commerce want everyone to put a quarter on the centerline bisecting the borough's Main Street. Though no centerline exists, organizers said they plan to make one.
There is room for tens of thousands of those shiny coins down the spine of Main Street between Center Square and Prospect Street. They'll go to soldiers serving overseas and their families here.
"I think that is a stunning idea," said Dorothy Niklos, president of the Lehigh Valley chapter of Blue Star Mothers. "When the Iraq war started, there was a need to help (the troops) and help the families." "
