Blue Star Mothers Making Spirits Brighter For Troops

The local chapter of Blue Star Mothers, a group of mothers who have sons and daughters in the military, want to give U.S. soldiers fighting overseas some Christmas gifts and cards again this year. The group's members currently have sons and daughters serving in Afghanistan, Iraq, Germany, Japan and South Korea, as well as some stationed in the United States. Collection boxes for the Blue Star Mothers Lake Erie New York Chapter 4 Christmas-care packages can be found at several locations throughout the area, and the organization encourages the community to donate a wide-variety of items.

Blue Star Moms share Thanksgiving together

Thanksgiving is a challenging time for military families whose loved ones are serving overseas. Two Blue Star Moms decided to mark the holiday together in San Jose by leaving a place for their sons at the table.

SPIRIT OF GIVING: Packages for troops

Local members of the Blue Star Mothers and employees of the AmericInn of Two Harbors and their families helped to package up the boxes. The packages will be sent to troops from Duluth and Hibbing.

Soldier surprises her daughter... who surprises her too

BOISE -- The drawdown of American troops in Iraq brought one young girl's mom home months earlier than planned. 7-year-old Emily didn't know her mom was coming home, and her soldier mom didn't know her daughter would be at the airport to greet her.


... And the welcome groups got a surprise too
The Patriot Guard Riders and Blue Star Mothers found out another servicemember was coming home at the same time. So they welcomed Naval Petty Officer First Class Jeremy Hood at the airport too.  He's been in Japan for the last three years and was, you guessed it, surprised to get a big welcome home.

Danville mourns Marine killed in Afghanistan

As word of Corral's death spread, the local chapter of Blue Star Mothers of America came to the aid of the family, Storer said. Blue Star Moms, a group founded during World War II, is a support service organization comprised of parents whose sons and daughters are serving in the military.

Blue Star Mothers Helping to Send Cards to Soldiers Stationed Overseas

 
Bangor - Local members of the Blue Star mothers spent Saturday at Macy's in Bangor.

They were asking shoppers to sign Christmas cards for soldiers currently stationed overseas. This is something they do every year.

Nonprofits need you this week

THE TREASURE VALLEY CHAPTER BLUE STAR MOTHERS OF AMERICA

The organization is asking for donations of non-perishable food and personal care items for its “Troop Care Package” program that sends good stuff (batteries, sunblock, Ramen noodles, coffee, granola bars, etc.) to troops overseas during the holidays.
