Pizarro: Soccer Silicon Valley scores big for community

"It hasn't been a great season for the San Jose Earthquakes, but the Soccer Silicon Valley Community Foundation has had a banner year.
The nonprofit — SSV President Don Gagliardi is quick to point out it's not a booster group — celebrated a lot of good work Saturday at its second annual fundraising dinner.
The sold-out affair at the San Jose Fairmont Hotel was attended by plenty of Quakes players, coaches and executives.
Gagliardi recapped the group's recent activities, both locally and internationally.
Working with Blue Star Moms, they donated soccer balls to kids in Iraq and supported projects in Ghana, El Salvador, Uganda and South Africa."
