Blue Star Mothers reach goal

The Edmond Sun, Edmond, OK - Blue Star Mothers reach goal: "Blue Star Mothers reach goal Patty Miller The Edmond Sun EDMOND — People of all ages and walks of life showed up Saturday at the National Guard Armory to make a difference in the lives of troops deployed overseas. With a goal of packing 500 boxes, more than 425 were packed by 11 a.m. with the final goal easily in sight. “We must have had more than 200 people coming in and out of the Armory this morning, either bringing items, packing items or making labels for each box that is being mailed,” said Blue Star Mother Jana Butcher, whose son, Jacob Land, is stationed in Baghdad. It all was for Make a Difference Day, set aside for Edmond residents by Mayor Dan O’Neil. O’Neil asked Edmond residents to make a difference by helping pack 500 boxes during the Christmas for Our Troops activities. “We thought we had plenty of items when we started,” O’Neil said, “but our packers are getting more experienced and are able to get more things in each box.” As the piles of items getting sent kept getting smaller, Blue Star Mothers’ President Vicki Behenna, whose son, 2nd Lt. Michael Behenna, is stationed in Iraq, would go gathering more items to be packed."
